Women’s Basketball to Play Three Road Games this Week

This will be just the second meeting all time between the teams. Drake beat Wyoming 63-50 last season in Des Moines. Mississippi Valley State (0-2) starts the tournament against Colorado (3-1) on Friday afternoon. The Devilettes have three players who average double figures. Drake and MVSU have never played before. The Buffaloes defeated then No. 24 Miami, 67-61, in their last game. Kennedy Leonard averages a team-high 14.3 points per game. Drake defeated Colorado, 82-66, in the 1999 WNIT in the only game of the series.Following the road trip, Drake returns to Des Moines to host Iowa State on Nov. 30 in the first five straight home games. Drake closes the week at the Rocky Mountain Hoops Classic hosted by the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo. where it will play games on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs play George Mason Friday at 3:30 p.m. CST and will then play either host Colorado or Mississippi Valley State on Saturday afternoon. All three games will be broadcast on the radio on 1350 ESPN Des Moines. Drake (2-1) blew out Liberty, 96-68, Friday night in the Knapp Center to close its appearance in the Preseason WNIT. Five Bulldogs, led by junior Sammie Bachrodt’s (Wichita, Kan.) game-high 18 points, scored in double figures in a game they led for nearly its entirety. As a team, Drake knocked down a season-high 14 three-pointers and snagged 13 steals paced by a career-tying six from Bachrodt. The rout was the Bulldogs’ 20th consecutive victory at the Knapp Center, which is the fourth-best home winning streak in the nation.
